  2. Stone placement: Using vacuum pick-and-place tools, each stone is positioned into its prepared seat with micron-level accuracy. Advanced systems use machine vision (camera-based measurement) to verify stone position before proceeding.
  3. Prong or bead formation: Micro-cutting tools create prongs or beads from the surrounding metal — the tiny nubs of gold that fold over the stone's girdle to hold it in place. CNC machines can create perfectly uniform prongs that are identical in height, width, and curvature across every stone in a multi-stone setting.
  4. Finishing: The machine performs preliminary polishing of the set area, smoothing any tool marks and creating a clean surface for final hand finishing.
